The Last Bit of Summer Fun

Wednesday we went out to Grizzly Creek for one last hurrah before school begins. We took my group of girls I teach at church plus a couple of friends and had a really nice day. The sun was so nice and warm but not UN comfortable, it was about 80 which is just perfect.
We missed Austin this last week. He left last Sunday afternoon for Cross Country/Track camp. Austin is a fantastic runner, he has always been a good runner. This year he will be a Freshman at the High School and is on the Track team. He is best at long distance so cross country is right up his alley. He had a lot of fun this last week and was happy to be home. He was pleased to report that he made brownies, spaghetti and helped grill burgers while at camp. He was one of 2 boys that knew how to cook. He also taught most of the guys how to make smore's. The coach's and the rest of the adults were appreciative and supportive of Austin and his cooking skills

Here is a snap shot looking up one of the redwoods that skirts the river bank. The redwoods are so massive, the average height is anywhere form 2 to 300 feet..not small at all!

Royce enjoying the conversation during lunch. Royce was so sweet to take the day off so I could have another adult and driver. It was really nice and broke the week up for all of us, it is not often that Royce gets a day off in the middle of the week, so this was a treat to have his company.

This is Janelle before her new back to school hair cut. She is going into 3rd grade, which just amazes me.

Janelle after her hair cut..looks like a 3rd grader hair cut doesn't it? She choose her hair do. It doesn't look like much was cut, but really the cutting was more in the back, about 5 inches worth came off the back, her bangs are finally as long as her chin, it has been a very long process to get them grown out like she wants.

Here is Malia before her hair cut. Malia is going into 1st grade. Again I am floored that she is already in the 1st grade, it just doesn't seem right, time really is flying and this is just one of those reminders to me just how fast it is truly going.

Malia after her hair cut. She wanted her hair cut to her chin, in a bob. We had the hairdresser cut off about 8 inches and it comes to just below her shoulders. It is a longer version of the bob she wanted. Royce and I just couldn't digest the idea of hacking her hair as short as she would like. Royce told me "Don't you dare let her have them cut her hair that short." I take it daddy likes the girls with their hair a bit longer. It has been a very busy couple of weeks getting ready for this school year. We have had a enjoyable, very busy summer. I am looking forward to schedule and routine again. Fall is approaching to quickly for me. We are all looking forward to a great school year, this is a big year for us.
