Today we celebrated Malia's 7TH Birthday. It doesn't seem like it should be year 7 yet but it is! Royce and I hung a few decorations up Friday night after the kids went to bed. This is Malia's favorite, the Hello Kitty banner.

Our Birthday girl ready to celebrate her day, she is so excited that today is finally her birthday.

Janelle and the birthday girl. They are such good friends with each other and play together so nicely, most days. I love that they get along better than the average sisters do at this age, it makes life sweet around here, they truly are best friends with each other.

Malia wanted a vanilla birthday cake. I made a cake from the William-Sonoma baking book, it is called Almond-Scented White Cake. We omitted the toasted sliced almonds that go on the side, and made sure we added plenty of vanilla plus a little almond extract. We still put the melted berry preserves in the middle layer which added a nice flavor to the cake that was not overly sweet or overly dominating, you could still taste the vanilla which was what the birthday girl requested. The frosting was not getting very stiff so the decorating was less than spectacular but Malia loved it just they way it was and to me that is what is important.

Here is Malia thinking about what she is going to wish for, it seems it took her a little longer to decide what to wish for, she must really want that wish to come true!

One of the things Malia really wanted was her own apron and oven mitts. She loves to help in the kitchen and has been using one of the adult aprons. Royce and I found matching Mommy and Me Aprons that came together so we got those. Malia said as we took this picture "I Love It!" she was thrilled to finally get her own apron. She is still a little young to be getting stuff out of the oven, but she can hold onto the hot cookie sheets to remove cookies onto the cooling rack and learn how to work with an oven mitt on her hand.

She got a new head band in one of her gift bags. Malia has been wearing it since, with the exception of sleep time and shower time, she has not taken it off yet.

Look at that huge bite she is taking of cake! It was delicious. We had a really nice time celebrating Malia's birthday. She asked for Martha's Casserole and Cesar salad for dinner (Martha's is kinda like Lasagna) Each of the kids love to choose what we have for dinner on their birthday and it is usually one of their more favorite meals that they pick. I love doing this for them and it is one thing that we have done as far back as I can remember. I think it makes their day more special. We love our little Malia and the sweet blessing she is to our family and home, Malia is an absolute delight and truly the sweetest 7 year old we know! Happy Birthday baby girl!
